West Wickham

Do you live in a really, really dull, suburbanite hell? When the clocks say the time is past 10 in the evening do you know that there will be nothing to do? Well, it sounds rather like you live in a place just like West Wickham.

Evenings in West Wickham are boring. There is nothing to do. Nowhere to go. And when it's past closing time in the pubs, there is nothing to do. Or is there? Well, here is a list of some things which have been done, and are usually done to kill a bit of time...

Top eleven things to do after 10 o'clock..

  1. Go down to the off-licence opposite the train station. It doesn't shut until 11, and provides a useful little stock up place for that post-closing time drinking.
  2. Go to the kebab shop opposite the Swan. This is the last shop to close in the evenings in West Wickham. It even stays open until 2!! Perfect for late night snacks.
  3. Get a sober friend to drive you to a 24 hour garage. These aren't really within walking distance - unless you fancy a walk which might make you sober up - and there can be a bit of a communication problem at times.
  4. Get a sober friend to drive you to Gatwick. Despite being over half an hours drive away, it does have a late night McDonalds and you can have a bit of fun playing on the shuttle trains.
  5. Hire a video. This requires a bit of forward planning, and a trip over to nearby Coney Hall, but it's worth it (and they have a net connection there as well now!)
  6. Play in a kids playground. There are two to choose from, McAndrews and Blakes. Both have bad(-ish) late night reputations, but as long as there aren't any kids drunk on 'ooch down there you can have quite a bit of uninterrupted fun.
  7. Make sure you are inebriated by 10 anyway. My personal favourite, especially worthwhile if you have someone like Chris Hall or Rob Bull kicking around to "move" things, or push you round in a shopping trolley.
  8. Find a party to gate crash. Very difficult. First you need to find the party, and then you need to be sober enough to get away with crashing the party (Note: It may be necessary to walk further afield than West Wickham. Beckenham is quite a good bet.)
  9. Pass out before 10. Not a lot of fun, but it is the easiest way out.
  10. Complain about how bored you are. No fun whatsoever, but quite a frequent occurence anyway.
  11. Terrorize your neighbours by stealing plants/flowers/daffodils (yes i know that daffodils are flowers, but i had to include this so some people would know that their suggestion had been included). Another fave is moving these big, bushy, weird plants that one of our neighbours have and replanting the stems of said plant in other people gardens. Next day you get to see these cool "feather flag" things up and down the road. These make good drunken reminders for the "morning after". Quite a lot of fun. But can be a bit short lived.

NEW!!

Here's a new addition to this page! You see, I was wondering if you could help me out here. Do you live in a dull, boring, suburbanite hell?? If you do - and even if you don't, you could tell me what you do to stop boredom melting you away.. Fill in the form below, and let me know! Good suggestions will get added to the list!

Instructions : Send it in, erm... sends it in. And, start again...er... go on guess!

So there you have it, the best things to do in a very dull town. To be perfectly honest it about sums up the sort of things I get up to when I'm not at Uni. Sad eh?

Now here's something that'll amuse some people. I know it's not specifically about West Wickham, but seeing as West Wickham is a part of the officially most boring town in Great Britian, Bromley, I am including a link to a site which talks in some detail about Bromley. Go on in, and have a good ol' chuckle. I know I did.
